Three new records describe different parts of the same household economy: slower national growth, higher mortgage rates and changing Medicare drug premiums. Second-quarter GDP grew 1.5%, the average 30-year mortgage reached 6.66% and a temporary Part D subsidy will end before 2027 rates are published. Second-quarter GDP grew at a 1.5% annual rate while consumer spending increased at a 3.2% pace.
The PCE price index remained 3.7% above a year earlier and core PCE inflation was 3.3%. The average 30-year mortgage rate rose to 6.66%, its highest level in about a year. Headline GDP was reduced by imports, while a narrower measure of domestic demand expanded more quickly.
The Federal Reserve held its benchmark rate unchanged for a fifth meeting. The Medicare Part D subsidy cost $3.6 billion in 2026 and offset an average of $16 in monthly premiums. Mortgage rates depend on longer-term bond markets as well as Federal Reserve policy and can move without a change in the federal funds rate.
CMS said actual 2027 premiums will be released in September and that most increases should remain below $10 a month. Medicare beneficiaries can change plans annually, but plan availability and drug coverage differ across markets.
The evidentiary boundary at publication is specific: GDP will be revised, mortgage averages do not quote every borrower and final Medicare premiums are not yet available. The current account therefore distinguishes completed events from announced, proposed or still-contested steps. Statements by governments, companies, litigants and advocacy organizations establish what those parties said; they are not treated as independent proof of every underlying assertion. Numerical values describe the source period and category identified in the reporting and may be revised by the responsible institution.
The next public records expected to update this account are the next GDP revision and inflation release and September Part D premiums and weekly mortgage-rate movement. Until those records appear, the dates, totals, procedural posture and attributed descriptions above are the latest checked account for the July 31 edition. A later filing, official release, verified field report or corrected dataset could change a total or timetable without erasing the documented sequence at this cutoff.
