Triangle temperatures were expected to climb into the mid-90s during the week. High humidity could push apparent temperatures to around or above 100 degrees.

Lynn Council, who said Wake County deputies hanged him from a tree in the 1950s to coerce a confession, died Sunday at his home at age 93. He said deputies lowered him only after he refused to confess and that a scar remained on his neck. Council and seven other people had been accused of robbing a store outside Apex.

Johnston County Little League defeated Kentucky 2-0 on Sunday in Greenville to win the Little League Softball World Series. Johnston County beat Lake Mary, Florida, 4-0 in Saturday’s semifinal. The team reached the international tournament after winning North Carolina’s state title.
